NEW YORK, NY (February 10, 2005) – The NBA has teamed up with Spalding to design a new basketball that will commemorate NBA All-Star 2005 and be used in events during NBA All-Star Saturday Night presented by America Online and the McDonald’s Celebrity Game presented by Sprite.

The new ball will feature the host city’s team colors and All-Star logo and is the first in a series of All-Star basketballs expected to be used each year incorporating the host city’s team colors. The All-Star ball will feature alternating panels of light blue, gold and white along with the 2005 NBA All-Star logo.

In addition to the Celebrity Game, the ball will be used in the RadioShack Shooting Stars, PlayStation Skills Challenge, as the “money ball” in the Foot Locker Three-Point Shootout and in the Sprite Rising Stars Slam Dunk competitions.

The limited edition ball will be a collector’s item with a total of only 150 being made available to fans at the NBA Store at NBA All-Star Jam Session beginning February 16, on NBAStore.com and at the NBA Store on Fifth Avenue in New York City where it is currently available. The ball, which retails for $110 each, will be laser engraved with the words “Limited Edition” and the secondary All-Star logo.

“The NBA and Spalding wanted to create an icon that would commemorate each NBA All-Star,” says Brian Keegan, Director of Apparel, Sporting Goods and Basketball Partnerships, NBA. “This ball is certain to represent All-Star memories for both fans and players alike.”

NBA All-Star 2005 in Denver will feature a week of activities that will showcase the greatest athletes in the world playing basketball at the highest level on an international stage and will display the league’s deep commitment to its community. During the week, the NBA will conduct various interactive fan events such as NBA All-Star Jam Session, an interactive basketball theme park for fans of all ages taking place at the Colorado Convention Center, which features a 15,500 sq. ft. NBA Store offering more than 1,000 NBA products to fans, including authentic All-Star jerseys, t-shirts, hats, footwear, basketballs and more. The week will culminate with the 2005 NBA All-Star Game, which features the top players from the Eastern and Western conferences going head to head. The Game will be televised on TNT on Sunday, February 20 at 8:00 p.m. (ET).
