All-Star weekend appears to be coming at a less than opportune time for the surging Washington Wizards.

Before heading into the break, they will try to get by a Detroit Pistons team that's had their number of late.

The visiting Wizards look to extend their longest winning streak of the season to five Wednesday night against the Pistons, who aim for a 13th victory in 15 matchups in this series.

While it's been an overall disappointing season for Washington (15-35), coach Randy Wittman's team has picked up the pace in a big way over the last week. The Wizards have outscored opponents by an average of 11.3 points during their run, with all four wins coming against teams currently sitting inside the playoff picture.

"We hate that the break's coming up. It's going to ruin our momentum," rookie Bradley Beal told the league's official website. "But it's an opportunity to get some rest, though, and then come back focused and with the same mentality."

Washington entered Monday having dropped all 14 road matchups against fellow Eastern Conference foes before pulling out a 102-90 win at Milwaukee. Beal, playing his second game since missing five due to a sprained wrist, scored a season-high 28 points off the bench while Nene posted his third consecutive double-double with 21 points and a season-best 13 rebounds.

"I felt good, my wrist is feeling a lot better," Beal said. "Probably the biggest thing is I wanted is to shoot with confidence."

John Wall added 14 points and 10 assists for the Wizards, who shot 56.8 percent and limited the Bucks to 37.9 percent. Washington improved to 4-1 when recording at least 29 assists, with four of those games coming since Wall made his season debut Jan. 12 following a knee injury.

"That tells the story for us," Wittman said of the team's assist total. "When we're in the high 20s, we're pretty good."

The Wizards, though, could have a hard time keeping things going against the Pistons (20-33), who have taken four straight and 12 of 14 in the series. Washington, handed an ugly 100-68 defeat during its last visit to the Motor City on Dec. 21, has gone 9-42 at Detroit dating to 1987.

The Pistons followed a pair of impressive wins over San Antonio and Milwaukee with Monday's 105-86 loss to New Orleans. Detroit was limited to 35.8 percent from the field, its worst shooting performance since Dec. 1.

"I think we've played some good basketball throughout the week, but this is a definite step back," Kyle Singler told the team's official website. "We didn't really play well. Guys feel that. We're going to come in ... and just get ready for the next game. It's very disappointing. You don't want to play like this. You've just got to move on."

Rodney Stuckey had 19 points for the second consecutive game Monday and Greg Monroe, averaging 18.7 and 12.6 rebounds over seven contests this month, scored 17 to go along with 11 boards.

The Pistons are 14-7 when scoring at least 100 points but 6-26 when failing to reach that mark. The Wizards haven't allowed triple-digit points in a season-high nine straight games.

Washington has surrendered an average of 88.0 points over that stretch, 7.2 below its season mark.

Bynum leads Pistons past Wizards 96-85

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) It hasn't been much of a season for the Detroit Pistons.

They lost their first eight games, their most exciting player -- Andre Drummond -- is sidelined with a back injury and they are limping into the All-Star break playing in front of sparse crowds at the Palace of Auburn Hills.

At least they'll go into the long weekend with something positive.

Will Bynum and Jose Calderon combined for 18 points in the fourth quarter, and the Pistons beat the Washington Wizards 96-85 Wednesday night.

"Jose is the type of point guard who knows that when the time is right to pass up some open shots in order to keep the ball moving, and when the time is right to try to knock those shots down," Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said. "Because of that, and because he's such a good shooter, I can play him in the backcourt with a lot of different guys. Tonight, things were working with he and Will, but on other nights, I'll have him out there with Brandon (Knight) or Rodney (Stuckey)."

Wednesday was only Calderon's seventh game with the Pistons, but Bynum said that his outstanding passing and 45-percent 3-point shooting has made him a perfect fit for Detroit's backcourt.

"I think there's chemistry now that we've played a couple games together," said Bynum, who scored 20 points. "We cause match-up problems for just about whatever team we are going to play, and it is going to continue to get better the more we play together. I'm loving this."

Calderon was acquired for Tayshaun Prince and Austin Daye in a three-way trade, giving the Pistons another player who is primarily a point guard, like Bynum.

"I was never concerned about competition from Jose or anything like that," Bynum said. "It's all about getting the team wins. We were great in the fourth quarter, because we played pretty good defense and we made the right reads on offense."

With the game tied at 76, Bynum scored six straight points to give Detroit a 82-76 lead with 3:23 to play. Calderon made it nine points with a 3-pointer, and the margin was 11 before John Wall broke Detroit's surge.

"We didn't have an answer for Calderon or Bynum, especially in the fourth quarter," Washington coach Randy Wittman said. "They kind of did whatever they wanted to do, and that's disappointing, because this was a game going into the fourth quarter, and we've been winning games like this."

Calderon led the Pistons with 24 points, while Greg Monroe finished with 16 points and 18 rebounds as Detroit rebounded from a lopsided home loss Monday to New Orleans. Monroe became the first Piston to have eight straight double-double since Grant Hill had 10 straight in March of 1996.

"Greg was very good again tonight," Frank said. "We had a big night from him, along with both Jose and Will."

Emeka Okafor had 20 points and nine rebounds for the Wizards, while John Wall finished with 16 points and nine assists as Washington had a four-game winning streak snapped.

"We just didn't do the things we've been doing in the last few games," said Trevor Ariza, who had 10 points. "We didn't take care of our business, and we let this one slip away."

Monroe had 13 points and 11 rebounds in the first half, but the Wizards held a 45-44 lead. They quickly expanded the margin in the third quarter. Wall attacked the basket, and both Calderon and Brandon Knight struggled to stay in front of him.

Wall didn't score much on his own, but he set up Okafor and Nene for easy baskets at the rim. Calderon and Monroe, though, were able to keep the Pistons in touch on the offensive end, and the Wizards led 68-65 going into the fourth.

Notes: For the second time in three games, the Palace was nearly empty, with the lower deck less than half full and the upper deck only holding scattered families. The Pistons have led the league in attendance several times since moving to Auburn Hills in 1989, but are now ahead of only the Kings and Hornets. ... Knight will be Detroit's only representative at All-Star weekend, taking part in the Rising Stars game and the skills challenge. Andre Drummond was also scheduled to play in the Rising Stars game, but will sit out because of a back injury.

THE FACTS: Reserve guard Will Bynum scored 20 points off the bench, including 12 in the fourth quarter, and added a team-high eight assists as the Detroit Pistons snapped the Washington Wizards' four-game winning streak with a 96-85 victory at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Wednesday. The Pistons outscored the Wizards in the fourth quarter, 31-17. Jose Calderon fired in a season-high 24 points and Greg Monroe recorded his eighth consecutive double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds for the Pistons, who have won three of their last four. Emeka Okafor led the Wizards (15-36) with 20 points and nine rebounds and John Wall had 16 points and nine assists.

QUOTABLE: "Will and Jose, they're somewhat different players but they're just tough guys to guard. Will's ability to get to the rack and Jose's ability to spread the floor presents different things for teams to guard."

THE STAT: 2-26. The Pistons are not known for their fourth-quarter comebacks. They were down three entering the fourth, 68-65, and had won just one game trailing after three quarters. That just happened to be their previous victory, a 105-100 win at Milwaukee on Saturday when the outscored the Bucks 24-18 in the final 12 minutes.

TURNING POINT: The score was tied with five minutes remaining when Bynum took over the game. He made two free throws, a pullup jumper and a layup to give his club an 82-76 lead. Then he found Calderon in the corner for a 3-pointer before Singler's free throws finished the second of two 11-0 runs by Detroit during the quarter.

QUOTABLE II: "I've been talking to him in Ukrainian language about the lob, trying to get him to be the new Andre Drummond while he's out."
-- Bynum on Ukrainian rookie center Slava Kravtsov, who converted a fourth-quarter alley-oop. Kravtsov is filling in for Drummond, who is out with a back injury.

HOT: Monroe's eight consecutive double-doubles is the longest such streak by a Pistons since Grant Hill recorded 10 straight in March of 1996. He had 13 points and 11 rebounds by halftime.

NOT: Washington's Nene was averaging 15.7 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists in his last six games but he cooled off Wednesday, contributing just 10 points, two rebounds and four assists in 33 minutes. Nene was shadowed by a combination of players, including Monroe, Jason Maxiell and Charlie Villanueva.

ROOKIE WATCH: Kravtsov also played well defensively during his 14-minute stint, closing off the lane and also making two steals. Singler had another solid outing with 12 points and seven rebounds. Wizards guard Bradley Beal had 10 points but was shut out in the second half, mainly by Calderon.

NOTABLE: Detroit clinched the season series with its third win over Washington this season. It has won 16 of the last 20 meetings and the last six season series. ... Brandon Knight is the only Piston participating in All-Star Weekend. He will be in the Rising Stars Challenge, along with Beal, as well as the Skills Competition. ... The Wizards have held their last 10 opponents under 100 points. The last time they had a longer stretch of holding opponents under 100 was a 10-game streak from Dec. 6-26 in 2001. ... Washington is 10-8 since Wall returned from a knee injury. ... Detroit out-rebounded the Wizards 48-32.
