After avoiding their longest losing streak in three years, the Detroit Pistons are hoping to end their longest home skid in more than 12.

In order to accomplish that feat Tuesday night, they'll have to snap a four-game slide against a Minnesota Timberwolves team seeking its first back-to-back road wins in more than a year.

Detroit (24-47) dropped its previous 10 games by an average of 17.2 points before finally putting an end to the skid with a 92-91 victory at Charlotte on Saturday.

Reserve Charlie Villanueva stepped up with the go-ahead layup with 15 seconds left and scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead the way against the league-worst Bobcats.

The Pistons, who are one game ahead of Cleveland for last place in the Central Division, stopped their longest drought since losing 11 straight March 13-April 3, 2010.

"It felt really good to get a win after that losing streak we were on," said Villanueva, who shot 4 of 7 from 3-point range. "We kind of got that monkey off our back."

Now the Pistons hope to end a six-game skid at home, their longest since dropping eight in a row Dec. 30, 2000-Feb. 2, 2001.

They appear to have a decent opportunity to make that happen against the Northwest Division-worst Timberwolves, who snapped a nine-game road losing streak with a 117-86 win over Phoenix on Friday.

Minnesota (24-44), which hasn't won consecutive road contests since March 2012, fell behind by 13 at the half Sunday en route to a 104-97 home loss to Chicago.

"We have to learn to do it first. You can't let them dominate the game from the start and get a feel for how the game is going to go," coach Rick Adelman said.

Derrick Williams broke out of his slump with a career high-tying 28 points on 11-of-18 shooting against the Bulls. The second-year forward had averaged 8.0 points while missing 21 of 30 shots over his previous three games.

Nikola Pekovic had 15 points and eight rebounds, while Ricky Rubio added 15 and eight assists.

Pekovic led the way with 23 points and nine boards in a 91-80 victory in the last meeting in Detroit on April 19.

Minnesota averaged 90.6 points on 40.9 percent shooting over eight road games before putting up a season-high point total while hitting 53.2 percent from the field Friday.

The Timberwolves shot 50.0 percent Sunday, and they'll look to continue that efficiency against a Detroit team had been struggling defensively before its win over the Bobcats.

Detroit allowed an average of 111.8 points on 54.7 percent shooting over its prior six contests before limiting Charlotte to 41 points in the second half and 42.7 percent shooting overall.

Greg Monroe, leading the Pistons with 15.8 points per game, hopes to bounce back after finishing with six points on 2-of-11 shooting. He had totaled 40 points and 22 rebounds while shooting 18 of 29 in his previous two games.

While they are close to the bottom of the NBA with 21.1 assists per game, the Pistons recorded their second-highest total of the season with 31 against the Bobcats.

Minnesota, which is 8-27 away from home, has won two straight and four of six on the road in this series.

Pekovic leads Wolves' 105-82 rout of Pistons

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) The scouting report against the Minnesota Timberwolves is pretty simple - pack the paint, because they can't shoot 3-pointers.

Don't tell that to the Detroit Pistons.

The Timberwolves, who came into the game shooting a league-worst 29 percent from behind the arc, hit 14 3-pointers Tuesday night in a 105-82 rout of the hapless Detroit Pistons.

"We were due for a night like this," said J.J. Berea, who went 5 for 7 on 3s. "Our starters started getting hot, and we kept the flow going."

Detroit snapped a 10-game losing streak Saturday night in Charlotte, but certainly didn't build off that win against Minnesota.

"Of those 14 3-pointers, how many were contested? Not many," said Pistons coach Lawrence Frank. "We just had so many defensive breakdowns tonight. We let them hit some shots and gain some confidence, and then we just left them wide-open all night."

The game matched one of the league's worst home teams against one of the worst on the road. The Pistons haven't won at home since before the All-Star break, losing seven straight, while Minnesota only had one road victory in March.

Nikola Pekovic provided a perfect complement to Minnesota's 3-point barrage, dominating the paint for 18 points and 11 rebounds. Barea matched a season-best with 21 points off the bench, while Luke Ridnour scored 15 and Ricky Rubio added 14 points and nine assists.

"It was fun to have a game like this," Rubio said. "When shots are going in, it is easier to play. We've been strong all season, but we haven't hit 3s, so we need to keep this going."

Greg Monroe had 11 points and 12 rebounds for Detroit, while point guard Jose Calderon scored 14 points, but had only one assist. Monroe and Calderon were the only Pistons to reach double figures, until Khris Middleton got to 10 with an uncontested dunk in the final 20 seconds.

The Timberwolves hit five of six 3-pointers early in the third quarter to take a 13-point lead. Minnesota kept rolling throughout the period, outscoring Detroit 38-16 in the quarter to build an 82-54 lead.

"We just didn't guard anyone," rookie Kim English said.

Another small Palace crowd showered the Pistons with boos as the game got more and more out of hand. The only cheer came when the mascot hit a half-court shot during a timeout, but the applause ended when Minnesota scored another easy basket shortly after the break.

"We deserved everything we got tonight," Frank said. "We've got 24 wins and not many games left. The fans that were out here tonight are the hardcore loyalists, and we need to give them a better product. They have every right to boo us right now."

NOTES: The Pistons were missing backup point guard Will Bynum (hand) and rookie center Andre Drummond (back). Drummond, who has been out since Feb. 8, has returned to full activity and could play as soon as Friday. ... Kevin Love is scheduled to have a CT scan on his broken right hand later this week to determine if he will play again this season. ... Long-time Pistons trainer Mike Abdenour will be out indefinitely with an undisclosed medical issue.

THE FACTS: J.J. Barea tied his season high with 21 points and Nikola Pekovic had 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Minnesota Timberwolves rolled to a 105-82 victory over the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Tuesday. Minnesota made a season-high 14 3-pointers and held Detroit, which has lost 11 of its last 12, to 40.5 percent shooting. Jose Calderon's 14 points led the Pistons.

QUOTABLE: "We've been struggling but I know we can make shots. We just have to believe. Today, the shots were going in and felt comfortable. When the shots are falling in, it's easier to play. We didn't have a good percentage from the three and it's fun to have one of these games."

THE STAT: 29.4. Minnesota ranked last in 3-point percentage at 29.4 percent entering the game. No other team was below 32 percent. But the Timberwolves found their long-range stroke against the Pistons, making seven in the third quarter. Their 3-point percentage on Tuesday was 53.8.

TURNING POINT: The Pistons were down just five, 50-45, early in the third but the Timberwolves were just getting warmed up. Rubio made his second 3-pointer of the quarter with 5:56 left for a 61-48 advantage. Layups by Pekovic and Rubio stretched the lead to 18. When Derrick Williams and Chase Budinger made threes late in the quarter, the Timberwolves were up 24 en route to an 82-54 lead when the quarter end.

QUOTABLE II: "We kept them out of the paint, forced them into tough shots and then got out and ran in transition. It worked for us tonight."

HOT: The Timberwolves couldn't buy a road victory since the All-Star break, losing nine straight away from Target Center. In their last two road victories, they set a franchise road record in a positive way. They have now recorded back-to-back road wins of more than 20 points for the first time in franchise history. They won at Phoenix 117-86 on Friday.

NOT: Detroit's starting unit was on the floor when Minnesota blew the game open. That group was outscored by the Timberwolves' starting five 62-48, with Minnesota's starters making 25 of 38 field-goal attempts. The Pistons starters also committed 10 turnovers while making only eight assists.

ROOKIE WATCH: Alexey Shved had five points and seven assists in 21 minutes. Detroit used four first-year players, led by Khris Middleton, who had 10 points. Starter Kyle Singler was held to eight points and made three turnovers.

NOTABLE: Minnesota's starting backcourt of Luke Ridnour and Rubio combined for 29 points and 12 assists. ... Timberwolves forward Kevin Love missed his 40th consecutive game because of a broken hand. Detroit center Andre Drummond sat out his 22nd straight game with a back injury and reserve guard Will Bynum was sidelined by a right hand strain. ... Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva recorded his 300th career block during the first half. ... The Pistons' last home victory was against Washington on Feb. 13, just before the All-Star break. They are 3-15 since the break, with two of the victories coming at Charlotte. ... Minnesota has won five straight over the Pistons. The will play again in Minnesota on Saturday, April 6. ... Detroit ranked second to last in free throw percentage (69.6 percent) entering the game, ahead of only the Los Angeles Lakers (68.9), but made 11 of 13 on Tuesday. ... Longtime Pistons trainer Mike Abdenour missed the game after being placed on medical leave on Monday.
