The Detroit Pistons are stumbling toward the end of another non-playoff season.

The Toronto Raptors are following a similar path.

Detroit tries to end a seven-game home losing streak and earn its second win overall this month when it takes on the sinking Raptors, who will face former teammate Jose Calderon for the first time Friday night.

The Pistons (24-48) are 1-11 in March and 2-14 in their last 16, and they've been overwhelmed during their home skid, getting outscored by an average of 103.1-86.6.

Detroit was showered with boos while falling 105-82 to Minnesota on Tuesday, the fifth time during the home slide that it managed 82 or fewer points.

"We deserved everything we got tonight," Frank said. "We've got 24 wins and not many games left. The fans that were out here tonight are the hardcore loyalists, and we need to give them a better product. They have every right to boo us right now."

The Pistons last dropped eight in a row at home Dec. 30, 2000-Feb. 2, 2001. However, they've won four straight against the Raptors in Detroit, taking the most recent meeting there 91-90 on Nov. 23.

Toronto (26-45) evened the season series and ended a three-game skid in the overall series with a 97-91 victory Dec. 19 behind 23 points from DeMar DeRozan and 17 assists from Calderon.

The point guard, who spent his first seven-plus seasons with the Raptors, was acquired by the Pistons in a three-team deal Jan. 30 that sent Rudy Gay from Memphis to Toronto.

The Raptors won seven of 10 following Gay's arrival, but they've lost 12 of 15 since in what will be their fifth consecutive season of not making the playoffs.

There was talk of shutting Gay down for the season after he injured his back last Friday against New York and then missed Saturday's finale of the home-and-home with the Knicks. However, he should be able to go after returning Wednesday and scoring 15 points with a season high-tying 12 rebounds in a 107-88 loss to Atlanta.

Toronto, though, could be without forward Amir Johnson. If that's the case, coach Dwane Casey is hoping the team handles it better than it did Wednesday when it was outscored 55-29 after Johnson left in the third quarter with a left leg contusion.

"We didn't respond when they got physical," Casey said.

That could be a problem against Pistons center Greg Monroe, who has been at his best when facing the Raptors this season, totaling 54 points and 21 rebounds. He scored a career-high 35 and grabbed 10 boards Dec. 19.

Pistons rookie forward Andre Drummond, who had his first double-double Nov. 23 with 13 points and 13 rebounds, could play for the first time since Feb. 6 after being out with a stress fracture in his back.

Raptors beat Pistons 99-82 to end 5-game skid

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (AP) Rudy Gay and the Toronto Raptors are out of the playoff picture and have just 10 games left before their season ends. That doesn't mean they're going to go quietly.

Gay scored 19 of his 21 points during a dominant third quarter and the Raptors ended a five-game skid with a 99-82 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Friday night.

Toronto led 46-45 at the break and took control by outscoring the Pistons 23-5 in the first eight minutes of the third period.

DeMar DeRozan also had 21 to help Toronto win a second straight meeting with the Pistons.

"Whatever he drank at halftime, he needs to keep drinking it," coach Dwane Casey said of Gay, who was 7 for 11 from the floor in the third.

"Something clicked at halftime to get him going."

Gay had just two free throws in the first half, but heated up quickly once the teams returned to the floor. He scored eight of the Raptors' first 10 second-half points and added two 3-pointers later in the period to help turn the game into a rout.

"We've got a lot of young players and we're playing for next year," Gay said. "These young guys need to know what it feels like to win."

Amir Johnson added 20 points, including 10 during the second period that helped the Raptors take the lead for good.

Jonas Valanciunas had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Kyle Lowry added 11 assists.

"Rudy picked it up in the third and DeMar got it going, too," Lowry said. "When they get going, it's hard to stop them."

Jonas Jerebko scored 20 points to lead the Pistons, who also got 17 from rookie Andre Drummond in their eighth straight home loss. Detroit made just six field goals in the third and often couldn't seem to stop Gay once he got hot.

"It just doesn't add up when you're competitive for a half," an exasperated Pistons coach Lawrence Frank said. "It just snowballed on us.

"This is embarrassing."

The Pistons turned the ball over four times in the third and Toronto turned the miscues into nine points. Detroit ended the game with 13 giveaways.

Drummond, who missed 22 games with a stress fracture in his lower back, made his first career start and played for the first time since leaving a Feb. 6 loss to Brooklyn.

Kyle Singler added 13 points and Greg Monroe added 11 points and 13 rebounds as Detroit fell for the 12th time in its last 13 games.

It was the first time Toronto played against Pistons point guard Jose Calderon since the Jan. 30 trade that sent longtime Raptor Calderon to Detroit, Tayshaun Prince to Memphis and Gay to Toronto.

NOTES: Pistons guard Brandon Knight left the game less than a minute in after a collision with Toronto's DeRozan left him with a bloody nose. He returned a few minutes later wearing a protective mask and limped off the floor after being fouled midway through the fourth quarter. . It was `90s Night at the Palace of Auburn Hills. Actor Luke Perry of "Beverly Hills 90210" fame presented the game ball. . Longtime Pistons trainer Mike Abdenour is resting at home after having a stent procedure placed for a heart condition that was discovered March 24. He's been with the team for 34 seasons.

THE FACTS: Rudy Gay and DeMar DeRozan scored 21 points apiece as the Toronto Raptors snapped a five-game losing streak with a 99-82 victory over the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills on Friday.

Amir Johnson had 20 points and eight rebounds, and Jonas Valanciunas delivered 14 points and 13 rebounds for the Raptors (27-45), who outscored the Pistons 36-15 in the third quarter. Jonas Jerebko had 20 points for Detroit (24-29), which has lost 12 of its last 13 and eight straight at home.

QUOTABLE: "[Rudy Gay] really picked it up, especially in that third quarter. He and DeMar got it going and the type of players they are, when they get it going, it's hard to stop us. We called plays for Rudy and put him in different situations where [defenders] can't set themselves and we tried to get in transition, where the defense can't lock in."

THE STAT: 12.3 -- Detroit has a nasty habit of coming out of the locker room listless after halftime. It has been outscored in the third quarter seven consecutive games by an average of 12.3 points. It was outscored 38-16 by Minnesota in a 105-82 home loss to the Timberwolves on Tuesday.

TURNING POINT: The Raptors opened the second half on a 28-7 run. Gay had 16 of those points, including the first two baskets, an alley-oop dunk and two 3-pointers. DeRozan supplied a layup, a dunk and a long two-pointer during the outburst.

QUOTABLE II: "We ran post plays for DeMar. We know they like to double team and it's our job to come help and give him a release. We know if they're going to double team, it will come back to us for a wide open shot. We've just got to help each other."

HOT: While Gay and DeRozan put on a second-half show, big men Johnson and Valanciunas carried the Raptors in the first half. They shot a combined 13-for-14 from the field while scoring 28 points.

NOT: Detroit's Greg Monroe was averaging 27 points and 10.5 rebounds in his first two games against Toronto this season but was held in check on Friday. Though he had a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds, Monroe shot just 3-for-11 from the field. He also made three turnovers.

ROOKIE WATCH: Pistons rookie center Andre Drummond returned after missing 22 games due to a stress fracture in his back. He made his first start and looked sharp, contributing 17 points, four rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 19 minutes. Drummond scored six points in the early going and had three second-quarter dunks.

IN THE ARENA: The Pistons held a '90s night, featuring a halftime performance by Color Me Badd and an appearance by Luke Perry. That helped them bring in an announced crowd of 19,322. They have tried to bring in more fans throughout the season with musical halftime performances but still rank 28th in attendance.

NOTABLE: Point guard Jose Calderon, traded by the Raptors to Detroit on Jan. 30, had eight points, seven assists and three turnovers against his former team. ... Lowry made five of his 11 assists in the third quarter. ... Toronto shot 53.7 percent from the field while holding the Pistons to 40.8 percent shooting. ... The Pistons were eliminated from the playoffs when Milwaukee defeated the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday. ... Pistons reserve guard Will Bynum missed his second consecutive game with a right hand strain. ... Detroit plays six of its last nine on the road. ... Toronto had lost four straight at The Palace. Detroit ranks first in points in the paint among Eastern Conference teams at 45.7 per game. It had 46 against Toronto but gave up 54.
