Pelicans Coach Monty Williams
On closing the season with a win
“We’re really excited and happy to be able to get a win the last game of the season. We haven’t had a chance to enjoy that going into the offseason or into the playoffs, so we’re really happy about the way our guys played. We talked about it all year long but all that we’ve been through this year, for our guys to go out there and compete like that to the last minute of the season, it just says a lot about who we are as a program, and that’s how we played all year. We just scrap, fight, different guys make plays. It feels real good to get a win going into the summer. Now we’ve got to build on all of the things that we’ve learned and the growth that we’ve had this year we want to carry through the summer and build on it.”

On Tyreke’s (Evans) performance
“He drove me crazy a few times tonight with some of his ‘uh-oh’ plays but, these last two games, I hope he gets Player of the Week. I don’t know of anybody else who’s had a week like Tyreke against the teams and competition that he’s played against. I’m hoping he can get Player of the Week because he carried us when we needed him. We needed these two games to go into the summer. He stepped up big time and carried the team.”

Pelicans Guard Tyreke Evans
On the key to tonight’s win
“We just finished strong. We knew what we had to do. Coach talks about finishing strong. At halftime, he didn’t even put it on film. He just said that we have to play our basketball. That’s what we did.”

On what it means to finish the season on a high note
“It’s big. With the guys that came in and stepped up to play, they’ve never been in this position and they did a great job. We handled it well. They didn’t panic. They came with a lot of energy; I just fed off the energy. Everybody fed off the energy. We did a good job of playing well with each other.”

Pelicans Center Jeff Withey
On back to back wins
“It’s been an up and down season. A lot of guys got hurt this season; a lot of people were just out. To fight back and finish the season off with two wins means a lot to everybody in this room. It’s just good to go into this summer with a couple of wins.”

On his role tonight
“It’s just fun playing ball. Tyreke (Evans) had a monster game again. I’m just trying to do whatever I can to help our team win.”
